Hundings voice isnow heard, and in a sudden wave of sympathyBriinnhilde resolves to defend the young lovers. It is one of themost tremendous compositions in ex-istence. The wild shouts of the god-desses as they ride their winged steedsthrough the air to the Rock, the warlikecries of Briinnhilde and the neighing ofthe war horses are splendidly portrayed. The Valkyries see Briinnhilde flyingtoward them, evidently in great distress.She alights and asks her sisters to shieldher from the wrath of Wotan, who isriding in pursuit; but they dare nothelp her. Briinnhilde then bids Sieglinde fleealone, telling her that she is destined tobear a son who shall be the hero Siegfried.
