Бурнутян, Джордж

Джордж Бурнутян (англ. George A. Bournoutian, перс. جورج بورنوتیان‎; 25 сентября 1943, Исфахан — 22 августа 2021) — американский историк. Считается одним из мировых авторитетов по новой истории Восточной Армении и Закавказья (1400—1900), Южной Азии, Центральной Азии, России, Австралии и Южной Америки. Автор нескольких статей энциклопедии «Ираника».

Биография

Родился в Исфахане в семье персидских армян; окончил Институт Андишеха (Дон Боско) в Тегеране, после чего уехал для продолжения образования в США. Учился у д-ра Ричарда Ованнисяна и Амина Банани в Калифорнийском университете в Лос-Анджелесе, получив там последовательно бакалаврский (Армянская община Исфагана в XVII веке, 1970 год), магистерский (Повышение национального и политического самосознания среди армянских, грузинских и тюрко-татарских народов и их роль в русской революции 1905—1907 годов, 1971 год) и докторский дипломы (Восточная Армения накануне русского завоевания, 1976 год).

Являлся старшим профессором истории в Айонском колледже. Автор многочисленных книг по истории Армении. Преподавал историю Армении в Колумбийском, Тафтском, Нью-Йоркском университетах, Государственном университете Нью-Джерси, Университете Коннектикута, Рамапо колледже и Глендейльском колледже.

Джордж Бурнутян был большим любителем путешествий. Увлекался классической музыкой и кино, по которым также писал статьи. Кроме английского, свободно владел 5 языками: персидским, армянским, русским, пушту и таджикским, работал с документами на польском, турецком, французском, арабском и азербайджанском языках.
