Герд Герман Хайнрих[2] (нем. Gerd Hermann Heinrich; 7 ноября 1896, Берлин, Германия — 17 декабря 1984, Фармингтон, Мэн, США) — немецкий и американский энтомолог и орнитолог.

Биография править

Ранние годы править

Родился в Берлине. Его отец был врачом, а мать унаследовала ферму и землю в Польше. Там, в Боровке, в Западной Пруссии, Хайнрих вырос. Он планировал стать врачом, хотя интересовался естественной историей. Молодой человек начал изучать энтомологию, специализируясь на паразитических осах, но его образование прервала Первая мировая война. Герд сражался на восточном фронте в качестве кавалериста, получив Железный крест. Затем он выучился на пилота и воевал в небе. После войны вернулся в Боровке, женился на местной девушке Аннелизе Мачачек и жил с семьёй[3]. Совершил ряд научных экспедиций.

Вторая мировая война править

В 1939 война снова прервала карьеру учёного. Хайнрих записался в Вермахт, так как не сделать этого для него, как для поляка, могло быть смертельно опасно. С наступлением СССР его семья бежала в западном направлении. К 1943 году монография была готова, но из-за приближения фронта её пришлось спрятать в коробку и закопать в сухом месте в лесу (копию Герд отправил своему другу, химику Максу Фольмеру).

Америка править

В 1951 году эмигрировал в США. Продолжал экспедиционную работу в странах Латинской Америки. В 1960 году, осознав, что ему не удастся вернуться к закопанной монографии, сообщил её местоположение Польской академии наук. Насекомые оказались неповреждёнными.

Скончался 16 декабря 1984 года в возрасте 88 лет[4]. Его пережили жена, Хильдегарде Бёри Хайнрих из Уилтона, сын, Берндт Хайнрих, две дочери и четверо внуков[5].

Многие виды насекомых, особенно Hymenoptera названы в честь Хайнриха[6]. Вид Heinrichiellus hildegardae назван в честь его жены, Хильдегарде Марии[7].

Вклад в науку править

Герд стал автором 4 больших публикаций по Ichneumonidae, 4 популярных трэвелогов, 93 меньших, но значимых работ по Ichneumonidae, 3 публикаций о европейских млекопитающих, 3 о биологии птиц Анголы и 2 об их систематике в соавторстве с Сиднеем Диллоном Рипли[8][9].

Описал 1479 видов и подвидов Ichneumoninae из Неарктики, Африки, Мадагаскара, Азии и Палеарктики[10]. Большая часть описана на основе собственных коллекций Герда и, таким образом, можно назвать их новыми для науки, открытыми им самим.

Коллекции учёного хранятся в Польше, Германии[10] и США.
